About

Associate Professor Steadman specialises in orthopaedic surgery with special interests in upper and lower limb general orthopaedics and arthroplasty and orthopaedic oncology. He has been the Bone and Joint Decade Chairman in Queensland and the Senior Medical Officer with Queensland Health.

He is Federal Director and Treasurer of the Australian Orthopaedic Association's governing board and elected International medical graduate nominee of the Queensland branch and the National Secretary of the Australian Sarcoma Group.

Educated in Townsville and attending The University of Queensland for undergraduate training, Associate Professor Steadman gained his medical degree from The University of Queensland in 1986 and completed his orthopaedic training in Queensland. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 1995 and a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2000.

He has CIME accreditation, which is certification for the use of the AMA Guides from the American Board of Independent Medical Examiners (ABIME) and is a Certified Independent Medical Examiner (CIME).

Associate Professor Steadman was appointed as an Associate Professor in Orthopaedics of The University of Queensland from March 2008. He is registered to practice orthopaedic surgery in Australia. His additional experience includes 10 months as a Visiting Fellow to the Mayo Clinic (USA) on a Queensland Cancer fund research scholarship. From 1998 to 2000, he was the Director of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Princess Alexandra Hospital.

He currently has a private practice in Brisbane at the Mater Private Hospital in addition to being Visiting Specialist at both the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Royal Brisbane and Children's Hospital.

Associate Professor Steadman is on three charitable boards including Hannah's Chance foundation, Australian Sarcoma research trials group (ASSG) and Queensland Orthopaedic Research Trust.

He is the Managing Director of Medilaw and has recently attended Harvard Business School to attend a course on "Leadership and organisational renewal".
