MBBS FRACS
Dr Trantalis has a particular interest in advanced arthroscopic techniques for the repair of massive rotator cuff tears. The arthroscopic/sports surgery component includes hip arthroscopic surgery (management of labral tears, femoro-acetabular/extra-articular impingement, chondral injury, loose bodies), arthroscopic and open sports knee surgery (meniscal repair, ligament reconstruction, chondral reparation and osteotomy) and all facets of arthroscopic shoulder surgery.
The arthroplasty component involves high volume simple and complex primary reconstruction and revision reconstruction (including managing with severe bone and soft tissue loss) of the hip, knee and shoulder.
Dr Trantalis graduated with Honours from The University of New South Wales in 1996. He completed his Residency at the Prince of Wales Hospital and undertook orthopaedic training on the Sydney Training Programme, gaining Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2006.
He was appointed to the Concord Repatriation and General Hospital as a VMO orthopaedic surgeon in 2008. Dr Trantalis specifically sets aside time to work in the public health system as he values the opportunity to provide care for both public and private patients and particularly enjoys the teaching opportunities that he has in the public health system.
After completing his general orthopaedic training, Dr Trantalis dedicated a further 18 months to Fellowship training specifically in shoulder and elbow surgery. This enabled him to learn and become adept with the latest techniques in arthroscopic and reconstructive surgery of the shoulder and elbow.
