Mr Young’s special interests are sports medicine and arthritis surgery. He has a research interest in knee ligament injuries, patellar instability problems and the management of stress fractures in athletes.

Mr Young’s special interests are sports medicine and arthritis surgery. He is the orthopaedic surgeon to Western Bulldogs, Australian Rules Football team and is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon to the Australian and Victorian Institutes of Sports and Netball Australia.

He was born and raised in Melbourne completing his undergraduate medical training at Melbourne University in 1973. Mr Young carried out his orthopaedic surgical training through the Melbourne Orthopaedic Training Programme in 1981. He spent a further 12 months of surgical training at the Bristol Royal Infirmary in England, UK and six months as a travelling Fellow in Europe and Sweden.

Mr Young returned to Melbourne to join the Melbourne Orthopaedic Group in 1984 where he continues to practice orthopaedic surgery. He spent 10 years as a Visiting Orthopaedic Surgeon at the Alfred Hospital and is now in full-time private practice. Mr Young is a member of the Australian Arthroplasty Association and the Australian Knee Society.

Hip preservation surgery is now a large component of his practice. Mr Young is committed to developing and teaching hip arthroscopic surgery techniques.
